6 Ways To Make You Happy

Untitled

I've been feeling a little run down recently, so I decided that today I'd share with you a few things I like to do when I need a little pick me up, so lets jump in with activity number one...

Time Out
Like many people I am a person who struggles from time to time with anxiety and panic attacks. So when I feel an attack coming on I like to take some 'me time' and relax. One of my favourite ways to relax is by taking a nice big bubble bath with either a bubble bar or bath bomb! Some of my favourites right now are Sparkly Pumpkin and Father Christmas by Lush.

Spending Time With Friends
When you're feeling anxious it can sometimes appear easier to shut yourself away and avoid social situations. I am unfortunately someone who falls into that circle from time to time. However I find when I actually pluck up the courage and see my friends it makes me feel 'normal' I know it's easier said than done but it's certainly worth it when you are laughing out loud with your bestie!

Exercise
Yes I did just type the dreaded 'E' word... However exercise is a fantastic way to energise you and release endorphins which relieve stress and help make you happy. You don't have to spend hours chugging away at the gym, a walk through your local park or going for a swim will do the trick! A part of my exercise routine is getting shouted at by Jillian Michaels while doing her 30 day shed and shred DVD in my living room. On a side note - it means that I can have a large slice of chocolate cake and not feel guilty about it!

Embrace The Worst
What's the worst that could happen? If you have a specific thing that you are worried about; e.g. a party you've been invited to or an exam; often the best thing to do is to think about the worst thing that could possibly happen in that situation. Making my worries more realistic and confronting them head on, even if it's just in my head makes me feel more confident about facing up to them in reality.

Looking Forward
When I feel low I like to distract myself by thinking about things to look forward to. Whether it's knowing that I can snuggle up on the sofa after a long day, booking a holiday or looking out for the Christmas Coca Cola advert on TV, thinking ahead helps me not dwell on the not so great parts of the day.

Reward Yourself
If you've done something that's outside your box and your comfort zone then reward yourself because you flipping deserve it! Well all often concentrate on the stresses and the bits in life that make us unhappy and brush over the victories and laughs we had on the same day. Even if you've just had a good day and felt normal and happy then you deserve a reward because you didn't let feeling get you down. I like to treat myself with a little shopping spree finished off with a hot chocolate from Starbucks!
